Watch for Online Dating Frauds

Frauds have become quite common in recent years. There are different forms of frauds extending to different and sometimes unexpected fields. One of the common and uprising fraud cases is the online dating fraud. The fraud may be a simple distortion of the truth causing minor monetary damages, while in other cases it might cause major financial and emotional losses.

When it comes to the online dating frauds, the target audience normally includes individuals who are interested in socializing via the internet. There are different variations to the online frauds although most of them are rather basic. The fraud must be conducted online, though in some cases a physical meeting might be arranged.

The process of the fraud involves the fraudster creating a false account or accounts on a given dating site. The information posted will then be matched to the general wants of the targets. Some of the attributes such as tall, dark and handsome might be directed towards women. To draw the victim, a profile picture that is appealing to the eye is used to grab the users attention.

The account holder (fraudster) will be very friendly to the user and stimulate the conversations tending to befriend the user. Later on the account holder will ask the counterpart for a favor that involves finances. The favors commonly used include giving the fraudsters a loan that has to be repaid after a given amount of cash has been transacted. The involved transaction may be made by the user revealing some of their bank information. One may also be requested to pay for a flight ticket for the supposedly new found love. Although one may not be asked to send the fraudster some bank details, one may be asked to send the individual in question the money directly to resolve a given issue.

Although individual account holders are responsible for the frauds, some websites are being developed with the same intent. The case of the websites is however different with a few variations. The sites are usually created with a number of host members who are AI characters. The artificial intelligence characters will send invitations, flirts and messages to reflect the success of the dating site. The aim of such methods is to get the members to pay for premium membership. In most cases the registration to the site is free of charge, but the activation of the account requires one to pay some cash. This is common in the adult dating industry.
